These maps display the percent of Native language speakers in Alaska by community and over time, with SASAP region boundaries also shown for reference. The data are based on the survey question “Does this person speak a language other than English at home? What is this language?” and the response “Other Native North American languages”. This grouping of Native languages includes all Native American and Alaskan languages. Estimates for the number of people speaking Native languages at home are divided by estimates of the total population to obtain percentages for each community.
