Remote Desktop on macOS

Enabling Screen Sharing

• System Preferences -> Sharing
• Check the box next to Screen Sharing
• Set Allow access for: your user account only
• For connecting from Windows it is necessary to: Click Computer Settings… -> check the box for VNC Viewers… and set a password

Connecting from Windows

• Download and install a VNC viewer, such as:
  • RealVNC Free Edition
  • UltraVNC
• Start the VNC viewer
• Enter your hostname and port number (i.e. hostname.nceas.ucsb.edu:5900)
• Enter the VNC viewer password

Connecting from macOS

• Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server…
• vnc://hostname.nceas.ucsb.edu
• Enter username and password
