How to Request IT Help
Thomas’ regular work hours are Mon-Wed 8-5, Thu 8-3 (his office hours are also listed on his NCEAS Calendar).
Under normal operations, NCEAS working groups, residents, staff, and visitors can request technical assistance through the following channels:
- Requests for IT Support: Email help@nceas.ucsb.edu. This automatically creates a ticket in RT and ensures the computing team can properly triage, track, and route requests that take more than a few minutes to address.
- Quick Questions & Fast Checks: Post a message in the Slack channel #computing or tag @thomas directly.
- Urgent or In-Person Issues: Stop by Thomas’ office (Room 321) or text or call (805) 574-9102 (Thomas’ number is also listed on his Slack profile and in his email signature.)
- Self-Help Resources:
- NCEAS Welcome - Computing Page: Best for onboarding new residents and setting up initial systems.
- This Help Site: Various documentation, guides, and self-help articles covering NCEAS computing resources and best practices.
